Computerized Interest Profiler
(CIP) is a new vocational interest assessment
instrument administered by computer. Users receive
an accurate, reliable profile of their vocational
interests that:
Provides valuable
self-knowledge about their vocational interests,
Fosters career awareness, and
Provides
a window to the entire world of work via the
800+ occupations within O*NET OnLine.
This instrument is a
self-assessment career exploration tool that can
help people discover the type of work activities and
occupations that they would like and find exciting.
Users identify and learn about broad interest areas
most relevant to themselves. The instrument is
composed of 180 items describing work activities
that represent a wide variety of occupations as well
as a broad range of training levels. People can use
their interest results to explore the world of work.
The Occupational Outlook
Handbook—updated every 2 years by the Bureau of
Labor Statistics—is a career reference that
describes the job duties, working conditions,
education and training requirements, earnings
levels, current employment levels, projected
employment change, and employment prospects for
hundreds of occupations. It presents the results of
research and analysis conducted by the Bureau's
Office of Occupational Statistics and Employment
Projections, along with related information, to help
students and job seekers identify and learn about
careers.
This web site is the result of
a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Labor
and the U.S. Department of Education.It is designed to
provide information on high growth, in-demand
occupations along with the skills and education
needed to attain those jobs.
The Conference Board in
conjunction with the Partnership for 21st
Century Skills, Corporate Voices for Working
Families, and the Society for Human Resource
Management published a study entitled, “Are They
Really Ready To Work?,” which found many of today’s
entry level workers, even those with a four-year
college degree, lack the critical workplace skills
